Ghana

Ghana was successively evangelized by the French, the Portuguese, the Dutch (who drove away their predecessors), and finally, the Fathers of the African Missions, who arrived in 1880.

The most important Marian shrine in the country is that of Buoho, built in 1949, popular also with Protestants and Muslims. [1]

Moreover, the Virgin Mary is believed to have appeared in Ghana at a certain point in the past. It is said that the seer could smell the perfume of a flower, oftentimes a rose, before each apparition. [2]
