Tunisia

Tunisia was a Christian land during the first centuries of our era. It was the land of Tertullian (2nd c.), St Cyprian (3rd c.), and St Fulgentius (6th century).

Then came the Muslim era, and the era of Christian slaves, during which time the Virgin Mary was invoked as "Consoler of the afflicted, Mother of orphans and prisoners."

Today, Tunisia is 99% Muslim. Catholics have a cathedral in Tunis, and many churches and chapels are dedicated to Mary.
