Other Shrines in Japan

Nichinan: Shrine of Our Lady of Fatima (1959).

Tama-no-ura (Nagasaki): Our Lady of Lourdes.

Beppu: Church of Mary Help of Christians (1950).

Osaka: Saint Mary's Cathedral.

Fusiyama: On the slopes on Mount Fuji, to the south west of Tokyo, this shrine was built by American soldiers, as an act of reparation. Its beautiful cupola is a sign for all the Buddhist and Shintoist pilgrims who ascend the sacred mountain and sometimes affectionately point to the Blessed Virgin as a model of virtue...

Tsuwano Catholic Church (near Hiroshima): Shrine of Otome-Toge, which means path of the Virgin. In the the year 1869, near that place, 253 Christians were martyred. A monument was erected in 1895, then a chapel, in 1951. This shrine has become a center of pilgrimage, with a solemn procession on the second Sunday of May.
