Miraculous healings at the Shrine of Our Lady of Laus (France)

During the lifetime of the seer Benedicta, the first wave of healings at Laus involved both adults and children.

Many who had severe eye diseases, were miraculously cured of what was commonly referred to as “a blotch in the eye.” After applying oil from the sanctuary lamp to their infected eye, they could see perfectly clear.

At the time, the ecclesiastical authorities were hesitant about taking an official position concerning the apparitions and healings at Laus. Until one day the vicar general of Embrun, Fr. Antoine Lambert, organized an expedition to Laus to conduct an investigation.

There, he witnessed the cure of a 22-year-old woman named Catherine Vial. On the night of April 18, 1665, Catherine was lying in her bed when she suddenly felt that she could stretch her legs, which had been retracted for six years. In the morning she rushed to the Mass celebrated by Fr. Lambert. Seeing this, the priest exclaimed: "God’s hand is behind this! God’s hand is behind this!"

More recently, two miracles occurred in the early 2000s.

A woman from Belgium came up to the shrine’s reception desk one day to say that she had been cured of a herniated bulging disc. Because her condition was serious, she was going to have an emergency operation. But she told the surgeon:

"Doctor, you won’t have to operate on me. Mary is going to heal me!"

The surgeon had smiled and said ironically: "You still believe in miracles!?"

"I do, doctor!”

Four months later, the worried surgeon, not having heard from her, called her in and ordered a CT-scan. To his amazement, there was no sign of an abnormal disc. The patient then told him:

"Doctor, do you believe in miracles now?"

"Yes," he replied, "what you had was curable only by surgery."

Around the same time, the reception of the shrine received a phone call from Australia: it was a mother requesting prayers. She was pregnant with twins, and the ultrasound revealed that one was deformed. "We will pray for you, but we are also sending you some miraculous oil from the lamp of the sanctuary. Anoint your unborn babies with it every day. Shortly after this, the two babies were born, perfectly healthy. During the birth, the grandparents prayed at the shrine also.
