In Jerusalem, the birth (Nativity) of the Mother of Jesus is traditionally commemorated in the Church of Saint Anne with a Eucharistic celebration. The crypt is the site of the former home of the Virgin Mary's parents, where she is said to have been born.
The name of the church of Saint Anne refers to Mary's mother, Anne, who lived here with her husband, Saint Joachim, as the Gospel of James tells us, which specifies that the house of Mary's parents was located "not far from the Temple". This is where the Virgin Mary was born.
The feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, commemorated here every year on 8 September, is essential given the fundamental role played by the Virgin Mary in the history of salvation.
