Burkina Faso

Christians are a small minority in this country, but they are very attached to the Virgin Mary. The people particularly love to sing the litanies of the Virgin in their regional languages, set to splendid music, with special emphasis on the meaning of each invocation.

The chapels dedicated to Mary in the missions of Ouagadougou, Bobo-Dioulasso, Koudougou and Ouahigouya are the meeting place of important and festive celebrations. Other places have become Marian shrines, such as Yagma.

Saint John Paul II visited the country on two occasions: Bam in 1985 and Yagma in 1990.

Among the shrines, the most important ones are:

Our Lady of Bam, diocese of Ouahigouya, Loudougou.

Our Lady of Yagma, diocese of Ouagadougou.
